Ronald J. Gilson is the Meyers Professor of Law and Business at ¹ÏÌïºÚÁÏ and the Stern Professor of Law and Business at Columbia University. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute of Economic Policy Research. Professor Gilson is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and of the European Corporate Governance Institute, and was one of the Reporters of the American Law Institute's Corporate Governance Project. Professor Gilson’s academic work has focused on the law and economics of corporate governance and acquisitions along both comparative and domestic dimensions, and on the economic structure of transactions and complex contracting, including venture capital contracting. He is the author of The Law and Finance of Corporate Acquisitions (with B. Black), Cases and Materials on Corporations (with J. Choper & J. Coffee), and over 90 articles in law and economics journals.. He is the U.S. co-chair of the Transatlantic Corporate Governance Dialogue, held annually on a rotating basis in Washington, DC and Brussels Belgium, with the support of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the European Commission. Professor Gilson is the independent chair of the boards of directors of the American Century Mountain View Family of Mutual Funds. Before joining the Stanford Law School faculty in 1979, Professor Gilson was a partner at a San Francisco corporate law firm. He clerked for Chief Judge David L. Bazelon of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
